عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «الدُّنْيَا سِجْنُ المُؤْمِنِ وجَنَّةُ الكَافِرِ» رواه مسلم .
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This world is the prison of the believer and the paradise of the disbeliever." [Reported by Muslim]
الشرح · explanation
الدنيا سجن المؤمن: أي بالنسبة والمقارنة لما أعدّ الله له من النعيم الدائم في الآخرة. جنّة الكافر: أي بالنسبة لما أعد الله من العذاب المقيم في الآخرة.
"This world is the prison of the believer": meaning in relation and comparison to the everlasting bliss Allah has prepared for him in the Hereafter. "The paradise of the disbeliever": meaning in relation to the perpetual torment Allah has prepared in the Hereafter.

أنّ المؤمن ممنوع من شهوات الدّنيا فكأنه في سجن. أنّ شقاء الكافر في الدنيا بالنسبة لعذاب الآخرة جنّة. حثّ المؤمن على الإعراض عن محبة الدّنيا وعدم الانغماس في متاعها، وتشوقه إلى الدار الآخرة.
That the believer is restrained from the desires of this world, so it is as though he is in a prison. That the disbeliever's misery in this world is, in relation to the torment of the Hereafter, a paradise. Urging the believer to turn away from love of this world and not to immerse himself in its pleasures, and to long for the abode of the Hereafter.
