A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while there was nothing in my house that any living creature could eat, except a small quantity of barley on a shelf of mine. I ate from it for a long time, then I measured it, and it ran out. [Agreed upon]
Dhu kabid: literally "the possessor of a liver," meaning a living creature; life is expressed through the liver, since it is one of the principal organs of the body. Shatru sha'ir: a small amount of barley. Fa-faniya: it was exhausted and came to an end.

Being overly anxious to measure, count, and tally food may cause the blessing in it to depart. Blessing is most often found in things that are unknown and unquantified. Among his miracles (peace and blessings be upon him) was the multiplication of a small amount of food.
