عن أبي هُرَيْرَة رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: سمعتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «أَلا إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا مَلْعُونَةٌ، مَلعونٌ مَا فيها، إِلَّا ذِكْرَ اللهِ ومَا وَالَاهُ، وَعالمًا وَمُتَعلِّمًا». رواه الترمذي وقال: حديثٌ حسنٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, this world is cursed, and cursed is all that is in it, except the remembrance of Allah and what is conducive to it, and a scholar and a learner." [Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan hadith]
الشرح · explanation
ملعونة: مبغوضة لا خير فيها، وأصل اللّعن الطرد. ملعون ما فيها: ممّا يشغل عن الله من الأموال والأمتعة والشهوات وغيرها. وما والاه: وما كان قريبًا من أعمال البرّ.
Mal'unah: detested, with no good in it; the root meaning of la'n (cursing) is expulsion. Mal'un ma fiha: that which distracts from Allah, such as wealth, possessions, desires, and the like. Wa ma walahu: and what is close to acts of righteousness.

لا يجوز لعن الدنيا مطلقًا، ولكن يجوز لعن ما يبعد منها عن الله تعالى ويشغل عن طاعته. الحثّ على عدم الركون إلى الدّنيا والانشغال بها عن العمل الصالح. كل علم يقرب إلى مرضاة الله تعالى وينفع عباده فهو مطلوب ومحمود. فضل العالم والمتعلم وشرف العلم من بين جميع الطاعات.
It is not permissible to curse this world absolutely; rather, it is permissible to curse that within it which distances one from Allah, the Exalted, and distracts from obedience to Him. An encouragement not to incline toward this world and become preoccupied with it at the expense of righteous deeds. Every branch of knowledge that brings one closer to the pleasure of Allah, the Exalted, and benefits His servants is sought after and praiseworthy. The merit of the scholar and the learner, and the nobility of knowledge among all acts of obedience.
