عنْ عبْدِ اللهِ بنِ الشِّخِّيرِ بكسر الشين والخاءِ المشددةِ المعجمتين رضيَ اللهُ عنه، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم وهُوَ يَقْرَأُ: أَلهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ قال: «يَقُولُ ابنُ آدَم: مَالي، مَالي، وَهَل لَكَ يَا ابن آدمَ مِنْ مالِكَ إِلَّا مَا أَكَلتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ، أو لبِستَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ، أَوْ تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضيْتَ؟» رواه مسلم.
'Abd Allah ibn al-Shikhkhir — with a kasrah on the shin and the doubled, dotted kha — (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was reciting: "Competition in worldly increase distracts you" [al-Takathur: 1]. He said: "The son of Adam says: My wealth, my wealth! But what, O son of Adam, do you have of your wealth except what you have eaten and used up, or what you have worn and worn out, or what you have given in charity and thereby sent forward?" [Reported by Muslim]

فأفنيت: أذهبت وأتلفت. فأمضيت: أنفذت الصدقة ودفعتها إلى من يستحقها.
Fa-afnayt: you consumed and destroyed it. Fa-amdayt: you carried the charity through and gave it to those who deserve it.

ما يجمعه الإنسان في هذه الحياة زائدًا عن حاجته فإنما هو بمنزلة الخادم الخازن لغيره. التحريض على الزهد عن جمع الأموال والأمتعة، والاقتصار على ما تدعو إليه الضرورة والحاجة. الإكثار من الصدقة وإعانة المحتاج، وبذل المال فيما يرضي الله. عدم اكتساب المال إلا من حلال.
Whatever a person accumulates in this life beyond his need is merely like a servant safeguarding it for someone else. An urging toward renouncing the accumulation of wealth and possessions, and limiting oneself to what necessity and need require. Giving charity abundantly, aiding the needy, and spending wealth in what pleases Allah. Not earning wealth except from what is lawful.
