عن عبدِ اللهِ بنِ مَسْعُودٍ رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: نَامَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم على حَصيرٍ، فَقَامَ وَقَدْ أَثَّرَ في جَنْبِهِ، قُلْنَا: يا رَسُولَ اللهِ لوِ اتَّخَذْنَا لكَ وِطَاءً! فقالَ: «مَا لي وَلِلدُّنْيَا؟ مَا أَنَا في الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا كَرَاكبٍ اسْتَظَلَّ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ ثُمَّ رَاحَ وَتَرَكَهَا». رواه الترمذي وقال: حديث حسن صحيح.
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept upon a straw mat, and when he arose it had left marks on his side. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we not prepare for you a soft bedding?" He said: "What have I to do with this world? In relation to this world I am but like a rider who shades himself under a tree, then moves on and leaves it." Recorded by al-Tirmidhi, who said it is a good and authentic (hasan sahih) hadith.
