عن أبي بُردَةَ، عنْ أبي موسى الأشعَريِّ رضي اللّه عنه قال: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم في غَزَاةٍ، ونحْنُ سِتَّةُ نَفَرٍ بيْنَنَا بَعِيرٌ نَعْتَقِبُهُ ، فَنَقِبَتْ أَقدامُنا وَنَقِبَتْ قَدَمِي، وَسَقَطَتْ أَظْفاري، فَكُنَّا نَلُفُّ عَلى أَرْجُلِنا الخِرَقَ، فَسُمِّيَتْ غَزوَةَ ذَاتِ الرِّقاعِ لِما كُنَّا نَعْصُبُ عَلى أَرْجُلِنَا الخِرَقَ، قالَ أَبو بُردَةَ: فَحَدَّثَ أَبو مُوسَى بِهَذا الحَدِيثِ، ثُمَّ كَرِهَ ذلكَ، وقالَ: ما كنْتُ أَصْنَعُ بِأَنْ أَذْكُرَهُ! قالَ: كَأَنَّهُ كَرِهَ أَنْ يَكُونَ شَيْئًا مِنْ عَمَلِهِ أَفْشاهُ. متفقٌ عليه.
Abu Burdah reported from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition, and we were six men with one camel between us which we rode in turns. Our feet became blistered, and my own feet became blistered and my toenails fell off, so we used to wrap rags around our feet. For this reason it was called the Expedition of the Rags (Dhat al-Riqa'), because of the rags we bound around our feet. Abu Burdah said: Abu Musa narrated this hadith, then he disliked having done so and said, "What was I gaining by mentioning it!" He (the narrator) said: It was as though he disliked having disclosed something of his own deeds. [Agreed upon]

غزاة: المرة من الغزو. نعتقبه: نتعاقبه في الركوب واحدًا بعد واحد. فنقبت: رقّت جلود القدمين من المشي. نعصب: نربط. ما كنت أن أصنع بأن أذكره : أي ما الذي استفدته بذكر ذلك؟.
Military expedition (ghazah): a single instance of going out to battle. We rode in turns: we took turns riding it one after another. Became blistered (naqibat): the skin of the feet became worn thin from walking. We bound: we tied. What was I gaining by mentioning it: that is, what benefit did I gain by mentioning that?
