Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was never asked for anything for the sake of Islam but that he gave it. A man came to him, and he gave him a flock of sheep filling the space between two mountains. The man returned to his people and said: "O my people, accept Islam, for Muhammad gives like one who does not fear poverty." Indeed, a man would accept Islam desiring only worldly gain, yet it would not be long before Islam became dearer to him than the world and all that is in it. Reported by Muslim.

The permissibility of giving a single petitioner a great deal of wealth when a great benefit results from it. In this hadith, among the great benefits was this man's sincere calling of his people to enter into Islam. The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) knowledge of the remedy of souls and of treating them in a manner that turns them to their opposite: from love of the world to love of the Hereafter, and from love of wealth to love of Islam. A Muslim should not think ill of one who enters Islam. Even if it appears that he sought some worldly benefit thereby, it may well be that his Islam becomes excellent after he comes to know the tolerance of this religion, even if that occurs after some time.
