عَنْ أبي هُريرةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ، وَمَا زَادَ اللهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلَّا عِزًّا، وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أَحَدٌ للهِ إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وجلَّ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Charity does not diminish wealth; Allah increases His servant in nothing but honor through forgiveness; and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, raises him." صدقة: المراد بها هنا ما يُخرجه المسلم من المال تقربًا إلى الله تعالى. بعفو: أي بالصفح والمسامحة. عزًّا: أي سيادة وعظمة في القلوب وكرامة.
"Charity": what is meant here is the wealth that a Muslim gives out seeking nearness to Allah, Exalted is He. "Through forgiveness": meaning through pardon and overlooking faults. "Honor": meaning prestige, greatness in hearts, and dignity.

الحثّ على الإنفاق في وجوه البرّ، وعلى العفو عن الناس، وعلى التواضع. أن الصدقة لا تُنقص المال إنّما هي سبب لنمائه وحصول البركة فيه، فأجر الصدقة وثوابها في الآخرة يجبر نقصه الظاهر في الدنيا. أن من عُرف بالصفح والمسامحة والتواضع يكسب في الدنيا احترام الناس ومحبتهم، ويكسب في الآخرة رفع درجاته في الجنة فضلًا من الله. التواضع لعِباد الله طاعة لله، فالله يحب التواضع من عباده ويكره التكبّر.
Encouragement to spend in avenues of righteousness, to pardon people, and to be humble. That charity does not diminish wealth; rather, it is a cause of its growth and the attainment of blessing in it. The reward and recompense of charity in the Hereafter compensates for its apparent decrease in this world. That whoever is known for pardoning, overlooking faults, and humility earns the respect and love of people in this world, and earns the raising of his ranks in Paradise in the Hereafter, as a grace from Allah. Humility toward the servants of Allah is obedience to Allah; for Allah loves humility from His servants and detests arrogance.
