عَنْ جابرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قالَ: «اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ، فَإِنَّ الظُّلْمَ ظُلمَاتٌ يوْمَ القِيامَة، واتَّقُوا الشُّحَّ، فَإِنَّ الشُّحَّ أَهْلَكَ منْ كانَ قَبْلَكُمْ، حَمَلَهُمْ على أَنْ سَفَكُوا دِمَاءَهمْ واستحَلُّوا مَحَارِمَهُمْ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of wrongdoing, for wrongdoing will be layers of darkness on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of avarice, for avarice destroyed those who came before you: it drove them to shed their blood and to violate what was sacred to them." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
اتقوا: احذروا واجتنبوا. الظلم: هو مجاوزة الحد وعدم إيصال الحق إلى صاحبه. الشّحّ: البخل الشديد مع الحرص. حملهم: كان سببًا لفعلهم. سفكوا دماءهم: قتل بعضهم بعضًا ليأخذ ماله. استحلوا محارمهم: استباحوا نساءهم أو ما حرّم الله تعالى عليهم من أموالهم وغيرها.
Beware (ittaqu): be on guard and keep away. Wrongdoing (al-zulm): exceeding the bounds and failing to render rights to those entitled to them. Avarice (al-shuhh): intense miserliness coupled with greed. Drove them: was a cause of their action. Shed their blood: they killed one another to seize one another's wealth. Violated what was sacred to them: they treated as lawful one another's women, or what Allah had forbidden them of their wealth and the like.

الحثّ على اجتناب الظلم والبخل. الحثّ على سلوك سبيل العدل والكرم والسخاء. أنّ الظلم من الذنوب الكبيرة التي تجعل فاعلها في كربات شديدة وعقاب أليم يوم القيامة. أنّ الحرص على الدنيا والبخل كثيرًا ما يجرُّ الناس إلى المعاصي والآثام ويوقعهم في الفواحش والمنكرات.
Encouragement to avoid wrongdoing and miserliness. Encouragement to follow the path of justice, generosity, and liberality. That wrongdoing is among the major sins which place its doer in severe distress and painful punishment on the Day of Resurrection. That greed for this world and miserliness often drag people into sins and transgressions and cast them into immoralities and abominations.
