عَن ابْنِ عمر رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما، عنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «لا حَسَدَ إِلَّا في اثنَتَيْنِ: رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللهُ القُرآنَ فهو يَقُومُ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيلِ وآنَاءَ النَّهارِ، وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ الله مَالًا فهوَ يُنْفِقهُ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وآنَاءَ النَّهارِ » مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no envy except in two cases: a man whom Allah has given the Qur'an and he stands reciting it throughout the hours of the night and the hours of the day, and a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it throughout the hours of the night and the hours of the day." Agreed upon.
الشرح · explanation
آتاه القرآن: أي وفَّقَه الله لحفظه وفهمه. يقوم به: يقرأه في الصلاة أو يداوم على تلاوته مطلقًا، ويدخل في القيام بالقرآن العمل بأحكامه. آناء: هي ساعات وأوقات، من الليل ويجوز إطلاقها على ساعات النهار أيضا، والمراد الانشغال بالقرآن والصدقة في كل الأوقات.
Has given him the Qur'an (atahu al-Qur'an): meaning Allah enabled him to memorize and understand it. He upholds it (yaqumu bihi): he reads it in prayer or persists in reciting it generally; and acting upon its rulings is included in upholding the Qur'an. The hours (ana'): they are the hours and times of the night, and it may also be applied to the hours of the day; what is meant is being occupied with the Qur'an and with charity at all times.

The merit of reciting the Noble Qur'an and upholding it, and the encouragement to do so. The encouragement to earn wealth in order to spend it in avenues of good, and the encouragement to acquire knowledge in order to benefit people by it. Giving thanks for the blessing of wealth is by spending it in avenues of obedience, and giving thanks for the blessing of knowledge is by acting upon it and teaching it.
