عَنْ أبي هريرةَ رضيَ اللهُ عنْه قالَ: قالَ رسولُ الله صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «أَكْثِرُوا ذِكْرَ هَاذِمِ اللَّذَّاتِ» يَعني المَوْتَ. رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقال: حديثٌ حسنٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Frequently remember the destroyer of pleasures"—meaning death. Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (sound) hadith.

هاذم اللذات: أي قاطعها، ومزيلها من الأصل.
The destroyer of pleasures (hadhim al-ladhdhat): meaning that which cuts them off and removes them at their root.

يسنّ لكل مسلم صحيح أو مريض ذكر الموت بقلبه ولسانه، والإكثار منه حتى يكون نَصْب عينيه، لأنّ ذلك أزجر عن المعصية وأدعى إلى الطاعة.
It is recommended for every Muslim, whether healthy or ill, to remember death with his heart and tongue, and to do so frequently until it is kept before his eyes, because that is the strongest deterrent from disobedience and the greatest incentive to obedience.
