Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When a third of the night had passed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would rise and say, "O people, remember Allah! The first blast has come, to be followed by the second; death has come with all that it brings, death has come with all that it brings." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I send many blessings upon you; how much of my supplication should I devote to you?" He said, "As much as you wish." I said, "A quarter?" He said, "As much as you wish, but if you increase it, that is better for you." I said, "Then a half?" He said, "As much as you wish, but if you increase it, that is better for you." I said, "Then two-thirds?" He said, "As much as you wish, but if you increase it, that is better for you." I said, "I will devote all of my supplication to you." He said, "Then your concerns will be taken care of and your sins will be forgiven." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (sound) hadith.
