عَنِ الحَسَنِ بْنِ عَليٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قال: حَفِظْتُ مِنْ رَسُول اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «دَعْ ما يَرِيبُكَ إِلى مَا لا يرِيبُكَ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حديثٌ حسنٌ صحيحٌ.
Al-Hasan ibn 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: I memorized from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: A hasan sahih (good and authentic) hadith.

دع ما يريبك: أي اتْرُكْ ما تَشُكُّ فِيهِ، وخُذْ ما لا تَشُكُّ فِيهِ.
Leave that which makes you doubt: that is, abandon whatever you are uncertain about, and take whatever you have no doubt about.

هذا الحديث أصل في باب الأخذ باليقين، وترك الأمور المشكوك فيها. الأمر فيه للندب والإرشاد للتحلي بمكارم الأخلاق والتورع عن الشبه. أن ما اشتبه حاله على الإنسان فتردَّد بين كونه حلالًا أو حرامًا، فاللائق بحاله تركُه، والذهابُ إلى ما يعلم حاله ويعرف أنه حلال، سواء أكان في أمور الدنيا أم في أمور الآخرة.
This hadith is a foundational principle in adhering to certainty and abandoning matters that are doubtful. The command here is for encouragement and guidance toward adorning oneself with noble character and being scrupulous in avoiding doubtful matters. When a matter is unclear to a person and he wavers between it being lawful or unlawful, the fitting course is to leave it and turn to what he knows for certain to be lawful, whether in the affairs of this world or the affairs of the Hereafter.
