عَنْ أبي سعيدٍ الخُدرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ الله صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرَ مَالِ المُسْلِم غَنَمٌ يَتَّبعُ بهَا شَعَفَ الْجِبَالِ، وموَاقِعَ الْقَطْرِ، يَفِرُّ بِدينِهِ مِنَ الفِتَنِ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time is coming when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he takes to the mountain tops and the places where rain falls, fleeing with his religion from trials." Reported by al-Bukhari.

شَعَفَ الجِبَال: أَعْلاَهَا. مواقع القطر: أماكن نزول المطر حيث تكثر الأعشاب.
Mountain tops (sha'af al-jibal): their highest peaks. The places where rain falls (mawaqi' al-qatr): the places where rain descends and where vegetation is abundant.

اعتزال الناس يكون في حال خوفه على نفسه من فساد دينه بسبب الفتن، و محافظة الإنسان على رأس ماله وهو الدين أولى من مخالطته لهم. إذا فسد الزمان ورأيت أن اختلاطك مع الناس لا يزيدك إلا شرًا وبعدًا من الله، فعليك بالاعتزال، أما إذا لم يكن الأمر كذلك، فاختلط مع الناس، وأمر بالمعروف، وانْه عن المنكر، واصبر على أذاهم.
Withdrawing from people is appropriate when a person fears for himself the corruption of his religion because of trials, and a person's preserving his most precious capital, namely his religion, takes precedence over mixing with them. When the times become corrupt and you see that mingling with people only increases you in evil and in distance from Allah, then withdraw; but if that is not the case, then mix with people, enjoin good, forbid evil, and patiently bear their harm.
