عَنْ أبي هُريرة رضيَ الله عنْه، عن النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «ما بَعَثَ الله نَبِيًّا إِلَّا رَعَى الْغَنَمَ» فَقَال أَصْحابُه: وَأَنْتَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، كُنْت أَرْعَاهَا عَلى قَرارِيطَ لأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah did not send any prophet but that he tended sheep." His Companions asked: "And you?" He said: "Yes, I used to tend them for a few carats for the people of Makkah." Reported by al-Bukhari.

تواضع الأنبياء حيث لم يترفعوا عن العمل الشريف، وفيه شرف لرعاة الأغنام. الترغيب بالكسب الحلال وإن قل الكسب الحاصل منه.
The humility of the prophets, in that they did not consider themselves above honorable work; and in this there is an honor for shepherds. Encouragement toward lawful earning, even if the earning obtained from it is small.
