عن أبي هُريرةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: قالَ رسُولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «ثَلاثةٌ لا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللهُ يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ، وَلا يُزَكِّيهِمْ، وَلا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَلهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ: شَيْخٌ زانٍ، ومَلِكٌ كَذَّابٌ، وعائلٌ مُسْتَكْبِرٌ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلٍمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, nor will He look at them, and theirs will be a painful punishment: an old man who commits fornication, a king who lies, and a poor man who is arrogant." لا يكلمهم: أي لا يكلمهم كلامًا ينفعهم ويسرُّهم ويرضى به عنهم. ولا يزكيهم: لا يطهرهم من الذنوب، ولا يقبل أعمالهم فيمدحهم بها. شيخ: هو من تقدمت به السن.
He will not speak to them: that is, He will not speak to them with words that benefit them, gladden them, or express His pleasure with them. Nor will He purify them: He will not cleanse them of sins, nor accept their deeds and praise them for them. An old man: one advanced in years.

حرمة الزنى ويشتد قبحه من كبير السن وهو منه أشنع، لأن إقدامه عليه مع كبر سنه دليل على فساد طبعه وضعف دينه. حرمة الكذب وهو من الملك أشنع لاستغنائه بجاهه وسلطانه، فهو غير مضطرٍ إليه، فإذا كذب دل ذلك على قلة مروءته وفساد دينه حرمة الكِبْر وهو من الفقير أبشع لأنه ليس لديه ما يدعوه إلى الكبر والترفُّع فاستكباره دليلٌ على فساد مستحكم في نفسه والعياذ بالله. سبب تخصيص هؤلاء بهذا الوعيد أنّ كلًا منهم التزم المعصية المذكورة مع بُعدها منه عادةً وضعف دواعيها عنده، وإن كان لا يعذر أحد بذنب لكن من هؤلاء أقبح.
The prohibition of fornication, whose ugliness is intensified when committed by an old man; in his case it is the most repugnant, for his committing it despite his advanced age is evidence of the corruption of his nature and the weakness of his faith. The prohibition of lying, which is more repugnant from a king, since his rank and authority make him free of any need for it; he is not compelled to it, so when he lies it shows the deficiency of his honour and the corruption of his faith. The prohibition of arrogance, which is most hideous from a poor man, since he has nothing that would prompt him to pride and self-exaltation; so his arrogance is evidence of a deep-rooted corruption within his soul, and we seek refuge in Allah from that. The reason these particular people are singled out for this threat is that each of them persisted in the mentioned sin even though it is ordinarily far removed from him and its motives are weak in his case. Though no one is excused for a sin, the sin of these is the more repugnant.
