عَن أَنسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: مَا مَسسْتُ دِيباجًا ولاَ حَرِيرًا أَلْيَنَ مِنْ كَفِّ رسُولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم، وَلاَ شَممْتُ رائحَةً قَطُّ أَطْيَبَ مِنْ رَائِحَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم، وَلَقَدْ خَدَمْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ عشْرَ سِنينَ، فَما قالَ لي قَطُّ: أُفٍّ، وَلا قالَ لِشَيْءٍ فَعلْتُهُ: لِمَ فَعَلْتَهُ؟ ولا لشيءٍ لَمْ أفعَلْهُ: أَلا فَعَلْتَ كَذا؟ مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I never touched any brocade or silk softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor did I ever smell any fragrance more pleasant than the scent of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I served the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for ten years, and he never once said to me, "Uff," nor did he ever say of something I did, "Why did you do it?" nor of something I did not do, "Why did you not do such-and-such?" Agreed upon.

كمال أخلاق الرسول صلّى الله عليه وسلّم وحسن معاملته لخادمه وأصحابه، وفي هذا تعليم لأمته وتأديب لهم. الاعتناء بوضع الطيب والنظافة الشخصية تأسيًا برسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم. شهادة أنس هذه شهادة عظيمة مقدّرة فهي شهادة قريبٍ من رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم قد عاش معه يخدمه عشر سنين! ولم يرَ من رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم ما يكره، خاصّة وأنّ من يقوم على الخدمة يرى ما لا يرى غيره من النّاس.
The perfection of the character of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the excellence of his treatment of his servant and his Companions; in this is instruction for his nation and a cultivation of their manners. Giving attention to applying perfume and to personal cleanliness, in emulation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). This testimony of Anas is a tremendous and weighty testimony, for it is the testimony of one close to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who lived with him serving him for ten years, yet never saw from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) anything he disliked—especially since one who attends upon another in service sees what others among the people do not see.
