ما كان عليه رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم من حسن الخلق والبعد عن سيئه، وترغيبه في حسن الخلق. من كان حَسَن الأخلاق كان بلا شك من خيار الناس، ولا زال النّاس يستدلون على صلاح الإنسان وطِيبه بما يرون من حُسن خلقه. النهي عن الفحش ولو كان على سبيل المزاح. من درجات السوء في الأخلاق أن يكون الإنسان فاحشًا في القول والفعل وأشدّ منها أن يكون متفحّشًا قاصدًا ومتحريًّا للفحش قولًا وعملًا، فالكلام البذيء على طرف لسانه، والفعل المستقبح أمر مشهور به، وهذا بلا شك من شرار النّاس.

The good character that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) possessed and his distance from its evil, and his encouragement toward good character. Whoever is of good character is, without doubt, among the best of people; people have always inferred the righteousness and goodness of a person from the good character they observe in him. The prohibition of obscenity, even if it be by way of jest. Among the degrees of evil in character is that a person be obscene in word and deed, and worse than that is that he be given to obscenity, intending and deliberately seeking out obscenity in word and deed, so that foul speech is ever on the tip of his tongue and repugnant conduct is something he is known for; such a person is, without doubt, among the worst of people.
