عَنْ أبي أُمَامَةَ الباهِليِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «أَنا زَعِيمٌ ببَيتٍ في ربَضِ الجنَّةِ لِمَنْ تَرَكَ المِراءَ وَإِنْ كَانَ مُحِقًّا، وَبِبَيْتٍ في وَسَطِ الجنَّةِ لِمَنْ تَرَكَ الكَذِبَ وإِنْ كَانَ مازِحًا، وَبِبَيْتٍ في أعلى الجَنَّةِ لِمَنْ حَسُنَ خُلُقُهُ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإِسنادٍ صحيح.
Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I guarantee a house in the outskirts of Paradise for one who gives up disputing even if he is in the right, and a house in the middle of Paradise for one who gives up lying even in jest, and a house in the highest part of Paradise for one whose character is good." Narrated by Abu Dawud with a sound chain of transmission.

زعِيم: ضامِن. ربض الجنة: أطرافها، والربض ما حول البيوت. المراء: المجادلة.
Guarantor (za'im): one who stands surety. The outskirts of Paradise (rabad al-Jannah): its borders and surroundings; the rabad is what lies around houses. Disputing (al-mira'): quarrelsome argumentation.

الترغيب في ترك المجادلة إذا لم تُجْدِ نفعًا. التحذير من الكذب ولو كان مازحًا غير قاصد للجدّ. أنّ حُسن الخُلق سبب لنيل أعلى المراتب في الجنّة لأنّه يجمع كل الفضائل في علاقة العبد بربّه وتعامل العبد مع النّاس.
Encouragement to abandon argumentation when it brings no benefit. A warning against lying, even in jest and without serious intent. Good character is a means of attaining the highest ranks in Paradise, because it gathers together all the virtues in the servant's relationship with his Lord and in his dealings with people.
