عَنْ جابرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «إِنَّ مِنْ أَحَبِّكُمْ إِليَّ وَأَقْرَبِكُمْ مِنِّي مَجلسًا يَومَ القِيَامَةِ، أَحَاسِنَكُمْ أَخلاقًا، وإِنَّ أَبَغَضَكُم إِليَّ وَأَبْعَدكُمْ مِنِّي يومَ الْقِيامة،ِ الثَّرْثَارُونَ والمُتَشَدِّقُونَ وَالمُتَفَيْهِقُونَ» قالوا: يا رسولَ اللهِ، قَدْ عَلِمْنَا الثَرْثَارُونَ وَالمُتَشَدِّقُونَ، فَمَا المُتَفيْهِقُونَ؟ قال: «المُتَكَبِّرُونَ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقال: حديثٌ حسن. وروى التِّرْمِذِيُّ عَنْ عبدِ اللهِ بنِ المُباركِ رحِمهُ اللهُ في تَفْسيرِ حُسْنِ الخُلُقِ قال: هُوَ طَلاقَةُ الوجهِ، وبذلُ المَعرُوفِ، وكَفُّ الأَذَى.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The dearest of you to me, and the nearest to me in sitting on the Day of Resurrection, are those of you who are best in character. And the most hateful of you to me, and the furthest from me on the Day of Resurrection, are the babblers, the pompous in speech, and the mutafayhiqun." They said: O Messenger of Allah, we know the babblers and the pompous, but who are the mutafayhiqun? He said: "The arrogant." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: A good (hasan) hadith. Al-Tirmidhi also narrated from Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him), in explanation of good character, that he said: It is a cheerful countenance, doing good, and refraining from causing harm.

الثَّرثَار: هُوَ كَثِيرُ الكَلامِ تَكلُّفًا. المُتَشَدِّقُ: المُتَطاوِلُ عَلى النَّاسِ بِكَلامِهِ، وَيتَكَلَّمُ بِملءِ فيهِ تَفَاصُحًا وَتَعْظِيمًا لكلامِهِ. المُتَفَيْهِق: أَصلُهُ مِنَ الفَهْقِ وهُو الامْتِلاءُ، وَهُوَ الَّذي يَمْلأُ فَمَهُ بِالكَلامِ، وَيَتَوَسَّعُ فيه،ِ تَكَبُّرًا وَارتِفَاعًا وإِظْهَارًا للفَضِيلَةِ عَلى غيَرِهِ.
The babbler (al-tharthar): one who talks excessively and affectedly. The pompous in speech (al-mutashaddiq): one who lords it over people with his speech and speaks with his mouth full, showing off his eloquence and magnifying his own words. Al-mutafayhiq: its origin is from al-fahq, meaning fullness; it is one who fills his mouth with speech and expands upon it out of arrogance, haughtiness, and a desire to display his superiority over others.

إخبار النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم بمحبّته لذوي الأخلاق الحسنة ورفعة مكانتهم في الجنّة، وبغضه لذوي الأخلاق السيّئة وبعد منزلتهم عنه. الحثّ على الابتعاد عن التكلّف والتفاصح في الكلام ليُظهر المتكلم نفسه بمظهر البليغ، وتجنُّب الترفّع على الآخرين. رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم يحب المؤمنين كافّة من حيث هم مؤمنون، وحبّه لأحسنهم خلقًا أشدّ، ويُبغض العصاة من حيث هم عاصون، وبغضه لأسوئهم أخلاقًا أشدّ. * قد يجتمع في المسلم خلق حسن وخلق سيء، فيكون محبوبًا بقدر ما فيه من حسن الخلق ومُبغَضًا بقدر ما فيه من سوء خلقه.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informs us of his love for those of good character and the loftiness of their station in Paradise, and of his dislike for those of bad character and the remoteness of their station from him. Encouragement to keep away from affectation and showing off in speech so that the speaker may present himself as eloquent, and to avoid haughtiness over others. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loves all the believers inasmuch as they are believers, but his love for those best in character is the strongest; and he dislikes the disobedient inasmuch as they are disobedient, but his dislike for those worst in character is the strongest. * A Muslim may combine within himself both good and bad traits, so he is loved to the extent of the good character he possesses and disliked to the extent of the bad character he possesses.
