عَن عائشةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْها، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «إِنَّ الرِّفْقَ لا يَكُونُ في شيءٍ إِلاَّ زَانَهُ، وَلا يُنْزَعُ مِنْ شَيءٍ إِلاَّ شَانَهُ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gentleness is not present in anything but that it adorns it, and it is not removed from anything but that it disgraces it." Narrated by Muslim.

زانه: حسَّنه وجمَّله. شانه: عابه.
Adorns it (zanahu): beautifies and embellishes it. Disgraces it (shanahu): makes it faulty.

ضرورة التحلي بالرفق، فإنه يزين المرء عَنْد الله تعالى ويزيّنه في أعين الناس. إذا نُزع الرفق من إنسان لحقه العيب عند الناس وعِنْد الله. وجود الرفق في تعاملاتنا لا يدلّ على ضعف وخور وجبن بل هو يزيّننا ويزيّن تعاملنا مع غيرنا، والعكس يحصل إذا تركنا الترفّق في الأمور.
The necessity of adorning oneself with gentleness, for it beautifies a person in the sight of Allah and beautifies him in the eyes of people. If gentleness is stripped away from a person, fault attaches to him in the sight of people and in the sight of Allah. The presence of gentleness in our dealings does not indicate weakness, feebleness, or cowardice; rather it adorns us and adorns our dealings with others, while the opposite occurs if we abandon gentleness in our affairs.
