عَن عبدِ اللهِ بنِ عمرِو بنِ العاصِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما قال: قال لي رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يا عبْدَ اللهِ، لا تَكُنْ مِثلَ فُلانٍ، كَانَ يقُومُ اللَّيْلَ فَترَكَ قيَامَ اللَّيْلِ!» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Abdullah, do not be like so-and-so, who used to pray at night and then abandoned praying at night!" Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

استحباب المداومة على فعل الخير دون تفريط أو إفراط. الاتعاظ بمن انقطع عن طاعة، ليحرص الداخل فيها على اتخاذ ما يعينه على الاستمرار. جواز ذكر الشخص بما فيه من عيبٍ إذا قصد بذلك التحذير من صنيعه. كراهية ترك العبادة وإن قلّت، ولو لم تكن واجبة. الحضّ على صلاة اللّيل وتشمل الوتر.
The recommendation of persevering in doing good, without neglect or excess. Taking heed from one who has cut off an act of obedience, so that whoever undertakes it should be keen to adopt what helps him to continue in it. It is permissible to mention a person's fault if the intent is to warn against his deed. The dislike of abandoning an act of worship even if it is little, and even if it is not obligatory.
