عَن عَدِيِّ بنِ حَاتمٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: قال رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يجدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Adi ibn Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Guard yourselves against the Fire, even with half a date; and whoever does not find that, then with a good word." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
اتقوا النار: اجعلوا بينكم وبينها وقاية من العمل الصالح ما يحفظكم من دخولها. ولو بشقّ تمرة: ولو أن تتصدّقوا بنصف تمرة.
"Guard yourselves against the Fire": place between yourselves and it a shield of righteous deeds that will protect you from entering it. "Even with half a date": even by giving half a date in charity.
