عَنِ العِرْباضِ بنِ سَاريةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: وَعظَنَا رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ مَوْعِظَةً وَجِلَتْ مِنهْا القُلُوبُ، وَذَرَفَتْ مِنْها العُيُون …) وَذَكَرَ الحدِيثَ ، وَقدْ سَبق بِكَمالِهِ في باب الأمرِ بالمُحافَظةِ عَلَى السُّنَّةِ، وذَكَرْنَا أَنَّ التِّرْمِذيَّ قال: إِنَّهُ حديثٌ حسنٌ صحيحٌ.
Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us an exhortation by which hearts trembled and eyes shed tears… and he mentioned the hadith. It has already appeared in full in the chapter on the command to adhere to the Sunnah, and we mentioned that al-Tirmidhi said it is a hasan sahih hadith.

موعظة: من الوعظ وهو النصح والتذكير بالعواقب. بليغة: مؤثرة تبلغ سويداء القلب وتؤثر فيه. وجلت: خافت. ذرفت: سالت.
"An exhortation (mawizah)": from waz, which is sincere counsel and reminding of consequences. "Eloquent (balighah)": affecting, reaching the innermost core of the heart and moving it. "Trembled (wajilat)": became fearful. "Shed tears (dharafat)": flowed.

The best exhortations are those that are substantial, comprehensive, eloquent, and beneficial. The tenderness of the Companions' hearts (may Allah be pleased with them). The necessity of the fear of Allah the Exalted (taqwa), which is complying with the commands of the Sacred Law and avoiding its prohibitions.
