عَنِ ابنِ عبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما: أَنَّهُ دَفَعَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ عرَفَةَ، فَسَمعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ وَرَاءهُ زَجْرًا شَدِيدًا وَضَرْبًا وَصوْتًا لِلإِبلِ، فَأَشارَ بِسَوْطِهِ إِلَيْهِمْ وقالَ: «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّكِينَةِ فَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ لَيْسَ بِالإِيضَاعِ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ، وروى مُسْلِمٌ بَعْضَهُ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that he set off with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of Arafah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard behind him a violent driving, beating, and shouting at the camels. So he gestured toward them with his whip and said: "O people, be calm, for righteousness does not come with haste." Reported by al-Bukhari, and Muslim reported part of it.
الشرح · explanation
دفع مع النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم: أي انصرف معه من عرفة الى مزدلفة. الْبرّ: الطَّاعَة. الإِيضَاع: الإِسْرَاع.
"Set off with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)": that is, he departed with him from Arafah to Muzdalifah. "Righteousness (al-birr)": obedience. "Haste (al-ida)": hurrying.

استحباب التأني والخشوع عند أداء العبادات. أنّ الهدوء والسكينة أعون على حضور القلب. ثواب العبادة إنما يكون بقدر الخشوع وحضور القلب فيها. النهي عن الإسراع لأنّه ربّما يفوت بذلك الأجر ويوقع في المعصية.
It is recommended to be composed and reverent when performing acts of worship. Calm and tranquility better help the presence of the heart. The reward of worship is proportional to the reverence and presence of heart in it. The prohibition of hurrying, because it may cause the reward to be lost and may lead into disobedience.
