عَنْ سالمِ بنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عبدَ اللهِ بنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما كَانَ يَقُولُ لِلرَّجُلِ إِذَا أَرَادَ سفرًا: ادْنُ مِنِّي حَتَّى أُوَدِّعَكَ كمَا كَانَ رسولُ الله صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يُودِّعُنَا، فيقُولُ: «أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللهَ دِينَكَ، وَأَمانَتَكَ، وخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ». رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ، وقال: حديثٌ حسنٌ صحيحٌ.
Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar reported that Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say to a man when he intended to travel: Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bid us farewell. He would say: "I entrust to Allah your religion, your trust, and the outcomes of your deeds." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

ادْن: اقترب. أستودع الله دينك: أسأل الله تعالى أن يحفظ عليك دينك. أمانتك: أي ما ائتمنت عليه من التكاليف الشرعية وغيرها. خَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ: آخر أعمالك.
"Come close": draw near. "I entrust to Allah your religion": I ask Allah the Exalted to preserve your religion for you. "Your trust": that is, what you have been entrusted with of the religious obligations and other matters. "The outcomes of your deeds": the last of your deeds.

استحباب توديع المسافر وأن يكون التوديع بمثل هذه الكلمات. الدعاء بحفظ الدِّين لأن السفر مظنّة التساهل فيه بأمر الدين، فناسب الدعاء بحفظه من أجل أن يزداد المسافر حرصًا عليه. في الدعاء بحفظ الأمانة تذكير للإنسان بما يلزمه المحافظة عليه من الأمانات الشرعية وغيرها. من حفظ دينه وأمانته كان حريًا أن يختم الله له بخاتمة السعادة. الاهتمام بخواتيم الأعمال، لأنّ مصير الإنسان مرهون بما يختم له عند موته.
It is recommended to bid farewell to the traveler and that the farewell be with words like these. Supplicating for the preservation of one's religion, because travel is an occasion for laxity in matters of religion, so it is fitting to supplicate for its preservation in order that the traveler grow more mindful of it. In supplicating for the preservation of the trust there is a reminder to a person of the trusts he is obliged to safeguard, whether religious or otherwise. Whoever preserves his religion and his trust is worthy that Allah seal his life with a happy ending. Concern for the outcomes of deeds, because a person's fate hinges on how his life is sealed at death.
