Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Mina, went to the Jamrah and stoned it, then came to his lodging at Mina and offered the sacrifice. Then he said to the barber, "Take," and pointed to his right side, then the left. Then he began to give the hair to the people. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In another narration: When he had stoned the Jamrah, sacrificed his offering, and shaved, he handed the barber his right side and he shaved it. Then he called Abu Talhah al-Ansari and gave it to him. Then he handed him the left side and said, "Shave," and he shaved it, and he gave it to Abu Talhah and said, "Distribute it among the people."
The Jamrah: that is, Jamrat al-Aqabah, which is the place where the pebbles are thrown at Mina. His lodging at Mina: that is, his place of temporary stay and residence during the days of tashriq, which is now called the Mosque of al-Khayf. "Take": that is, take the head to shave it. Sacrificed his offering: that is, sacrificed his sacrificial animals, the camels he had driven with him from Medina; nahr (throat-slaughter) is for camels just as dhabh (slaughter) is for sheep. Abu Talhah al-Ansari: his name is Zayd ibn Sahl, the husband of Umm Sulaym, the mother of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with them all). His giving him the hair to distribute among the people is proof of his love (peace and blessings be upon him) for him and for the people of his household.
