عنْ أبي مسعودٍ البَدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: دَعا رجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم لِطعَامٍ صَـنَعَهُ لَهُ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ، فَتَبِعهُمْ رَجُلٌ، فَلمَّا بَلَغَ الباب، قالَ النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «إِنَّ هذا تبِعَنا، فإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ، وإِنْ شِئتَ رَجَعَ» قال: بل آذَنُ لهُ يا رسولَ اللهِ. مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal he had prepared for him, as one of five. Another man followed them, and when he reached the door, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the host): "This man has followed us. If you wish, you may permit him; and if you wish, he will go back." He said: No, I permit him, O Messenger of Allah. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

"As one of five": that is, the man invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and invited four others along with him.

عدم جواز الحضور إلى بيت الوليمة من غير دعوة إلّا إذا سُمح له أو كانت الدعوة عامة. في استئذان النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم صاحب الدعوة تعليم لنا هذا الأدب الرفيع. لا يجوز للضيف أن يأذن لأحد في الإتيان معه إلّا بأمر صريح من صاحب الدعوة. من تبعه شخص إلى وليمة فإنّه يستأذن له قبل إدخاله معه إلّا إن كان يعلم من صاحب الدعوة الإذن.
It is not permissible to come to the house of a feast without an invitation, unless one is given permission or the invitation is a general one. In the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking the host's permission, there is a teaching for us of this refined etiquette. It is not permissible for a guest to grant anyone leave to come along with him except by explicit permission from the host. Whoever is followed by someone to a feast should seek permission for him before bringing him in, unless he knows that the host permits it.
