عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بنِ الأكوعِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَكلَ عِنْدَ رسولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم بشِمالهِ فقالَ: «كُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ» قال: لا أَسْتطِيعُ، قالَ: «لا اسْتَطَعْتَ»، ما مَنَعَهُ إِلاَّ الكِبْرُ، فَمَا رَفَعَهَا إِلى فِيهِ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Salamah ibn al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man ate with his left hand in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Eat with your right hand." The man said: I cannot. He said: "May you never be able to!" — nothing but pride prevented him — and he never again raised it to his mouth. Reported by Muslim.

مشروعية أمر من أكل بشماله أن يأكل باليمين، ولا يعدُّ هذا من التدخُّل في خصوصيات الغير. دعاء النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم على الرجل، لكذبه وتكبره وإعراضه عن طاعة رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم. جواز الدعاء على من خَالف الحُكم الشرعيّ بلا عذر. لا يتناول النَّهي من كانت في يده جراحةٌ أو إصابةٌ أو نحو ذلك ممّا يمنعه من استخدام يده على الوجه الأكمل، فإنّه يُرخّص له الأكل أو الشرب بيده الأخرى. في الحديث معجزة ظاهرة لرسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم، وهي استجابة دعائه حيث أصبح الرجل المدعوّ عليه لا يستطيع رفع يده اليمنى إلى فيه.
It is legislated to command one who eats with his left hand to eat with the right, and this is not considered an intrusion into another's private affairs. The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication against the man, on account of his lying, his arrogance, and his turning away from obeying the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The permissibility of supplicating against one who contravenes a legal ruling without excuse. The prohibition does not apply to one who has a wound, injury, or the like on his hand that prevents him from using it fully; such a person is permitted to eat or drink with his other hand. In the hadith is a manifest miracle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): the answering of his supplication, as the man against whom it was made became unable to raise his right hand to his mouth.
