عَنْ جابرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قال: سمعتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يَقُولُ: «طَعامُ الوَاحِدِ يَكْفي الاثْنَيْنِ، وطعامُ الاثْنَيْنِ يكْفي الأربعةَ، وطعامُ الأرَبَعةِ يَكْفي الثَّمانِيَةَ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Food enough for one is sufficient for two, food enough for two is sufficient for four, and food enough for four is sufficient for eight." Reported by Muslim.

الاجتماع على الطعام وإكثار الأيدي عليه يؤلّف القلوب ويبعث السرور وتحصل به البركة. استحباب الاجتماع على الطعام وعدم الأكل منفردًا. الحثّ على إطعام الطعام، وأن يكتفي كلّ بما يسد جوعه. أن الطعام الذي أُعدَّ لعدد من الناس فإنّه يكفي ضِعْفهم.
Gathering together over food and increasing the number of hands upon it unites hearts, brings joy, and draws down blessing. The recommendation of eating together and not eating alone. Encouragement to feed others, and that each person should be content with what satisfies his hunger. That food prepared for a certain number of people can suffice for twice their number.
