Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought milk that had been mixed with water. To his right was a bedouin and to his left was Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). He drank, then gave (the vessel) to the bedouin and said: "To the right, and then the next on the right." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

That the Sunnah in serving drink, offering hospitality, and the like is to begin with the most eminent person in the gathering, and then for that eminent or senior person to hand the vessel to the one on his right. Honoring and esteeming the senior person, so that he is served drink first, and then the one to his right.
