عَنْ عمرِو بنِ شُعيبٍ عنْ أَبيهِ عنْ جدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: رَأَيْتُ رسُولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يشربُ قَائمًا وقَاعِدًا. رواهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقال: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صحيحٌ.
Amr ibn Shu'ayb reported from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drinking while standing and while sitting. Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

أن الأفضل للمسلم ألَّا يشرب إلا وهو قاعد، فإن احتاج إلى الشرب أو الأكل قائما، فإن الحاجة ترفع الكراهة. متابعة الصحابة رضوان الله عليهم لأفعال النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم، وهذا يدلّ على شدّة محبّتهم له.
That it is better for the Muslim not to drink except while seated; but if he needs to drink or eat while standing, then the need lifts the disapproval. The Companions' (may Allah be pleased with them) following of the actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which indicates the intensity of their love for him.
