عَنِ المُغِيرةِ بنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: كُنْتُ معَ رسولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ ذاتَ ليْلَةٍ في مَسِيرٍ، فقالَ لي: «أَمعَكَ مَاءٌ؟» قلتُ: نَعَمْ، فَنَزَلَ عنْ راحِلتِهِ، فَمَشى حَتَّى توَارَى في سَوادِ اللَّيْلِ، ثمَّ جاءَ فَأَفْرَغْتُ علَيْهِ مِنَ الإِدَاوَةِ، فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَعَلَيهِ جُبَّةٌ مِنْ صُوفٍ، فلمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ يُخْرِجَ ذِراعَيْهِ مِنْها حَتَّى أَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الجُبَّةِ، فَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعيْهِ وَمَسَحَ برأْسِهِ، ثُمَّ أَهْوَيْتُ لِأَنْزِعَ خُفَّيْهِ فقالَ: «دعْهمَا فَإِنِّي أَدخَلْتُهُما طَاهِرَتَينِ» وَمَسَحَ عَلَيْهِما. مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وفي روايةٍ: وعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ. وفي روايةٍ: أَنَّ هذِهِ الْقَضِيَّةَ كانتْ في غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ.

Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) one night on a journey, and he said to me, "Do you have water?" I said, "Yes." He dismounted from his riding animal and walked until he disappeared into the darkness of the night. Then he came, and I poured for him from the water vessel. He washed his face while wearing a woolen cloak, but he could not get his forearms out of it, so he brought them out from beneath the cloak. He washed his forearms and wiped over his head. Then I bent down to remove his leather socks, but he said, "Leave them, for I put them on while in a state of purity," and he wiped over them. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In another narration: He was wearing a Syrian cloak with narrow sleeves. In another narration: This incident took place during the Battle of Tabuk.
