عَن ابنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما قالَ: قالَ رسُولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ جَرَّ ثَوبَهُ خيلاءَ لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ القيامَةِ» فقالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: فَكَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ النِّسَاءُ بِذُيُولِهنَّ؟ قالَ: «يُرْخينَ شِبْرًا» قَالَتْ: إِذن تَنكَشِفُ أَقْدامُهنَّ، قالَ: «فيُرْخِينَهُ ذِراعًا لاَ يَزِدْنَ». رواهُ أبُو دَاوُودَ، والتِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صحيحٌ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever trails his garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." Umm Salamah said: Then what should women do with their hems? He said: "Let them lower them a handspan." She said: Then their feet will be exposed. He said: "Then let them lower them a forearm's length, no more." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

لم ينظر الله إليه: أي لم ينظر الله له نظرة رحمة يوم القيامة. ذراعًا: الذراع من الإنسان من المرافق إلى أطراف الأصابع. ذيولهن: يعني أسفل ثيابهن. "فكيفَ يصنَعُ النِّساءُ بذِيُولِهنَّ؟": أي وما حُكْمُ إسبالِ النِّساءِ وإطالةِ أثوابِهنَّ؟
"Allah will not look at him": Allah will not look upon him with a look of mercy on the Day of Resurrection. "A forearm's length" (dhira'an): the forearm of a person is from the elbow to the tips of the fingers. "Their hems" (dhuyulahunna): the lower part of their garments. "Then what should women do with their hems?": that is, what is the ruling on women's isbal and the lengthening of their garments?
