عنْ أبي سعيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: كانَ رسُولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ إِذَا اسْتَجَدَّ ثَوْبًا سمَّاهُ باسْمِهِ -عِمامَةً، أَوْ قَمِيصًا، أَوْ رِدَاءً- يقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ لكَ الحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ ما صُنِعَ لَهُ، وأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وشَرِّ ما صُنِعَ لَهُ». رواهُ أبو داوُودَ، والتِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put on a new garment, he would name it by its name — a turban, or a shirt, or a cloak — and say: "O Allah, to You belongs all praise; You have clothed me with it. I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

استجد: أي لبس ثوبًا جديدًا. كسَوْتَنيه: ألبستني هذا الثوب.
"Put on new" (istajadda): he wore a new garment. "You have clothed me with it" (kasawtanihi): You dressed me in this garment.

استحباب حمد الله وشكره بعد لبس الثوب الجديد. يسن لمن لبس ثوبًا جديدًا أن يقول الذكر المذكور والظاهر أنّه يستحبّ أيضًا لمن لبس ثوبًا غير جديد. أنّ من شُكر النِّعمة نسبتها لله تبارك وتعالى.
The recommendation of praising and thanking Allah after putting on a new garment. It is a Sunnah for whoever puts on a new garment to say the aforementioned dhikr; and apparently it is also recommended for whoever puts on a garment that is not new. That among the [ways of showing] gratitude for a blessing is to attribute it to Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He.
