عنِ الْبَراءِ بنِ عازبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما قالَ: كَانَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ إذا أَوَى إلى فِرَاشِهِ نَامَ عَلى شِقِّهِ الأَيمنِ، ثُمَّ قالَ: «الَّلهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إليْكَ، وَوجَّهْتُ وَجْهي إلَيْكَ، وفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إلَيْكَ، وَأَلجَأْتُ ظهْري إلَيْكَ؛ رَغْبةً وَرهْبَةً إلَيْكَ، لا مَلْجأ ولا مَنْجَى مِنْكَ إلاَّ إلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكتَابِكَ الَّذي أَنْزلتَ وَنَبيِّكَ الَّذي أَرْسَلْتَ». رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيّ.
Al-Bara ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to his bed, he would sleep on his right side, then say: "O Allah, I submit myself to You, I turn my face to You, I entrust my affair to You, and I lay my back upon You, out of hope and fear of You. There is no refuge nor escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent." Reported by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
على شِقِّه: أي جانبه. وجهت وجهي: أي ذاتي، واستخدم كلمة الوجه للإشارة إلى الذات لأنه أشرف ما في الإنسان. فوضت: سلمت. أسلمت نفسي إليك: استسلمت وجعلت نفسي منقادة لك طائعة لحكمك. ألجأت ظهري إليك: أي توكلت عليك وأرجعت أمري كله إليك. رغبة: طمعًا في ثوابك. رهبة: خوفًا من عقابك.
"On his side": that is, his flank. "I turn my face to You": meaning my very self; the word "face" is used to indicate the self because it is the noblest part of a person. "I entrust": I hand over. "I submit myself to You": I surrender and make myself compliant to You, obedient to Your ruling. "I lay my back upon You": that is, I rely upon You and refer all my affairs to You. "Out of hope": desiring Your reward. "Out of fear": fearing Your punishment.

استحباب هذا الدعاء عند النوم. أنّ من السنّة النوم على الجانب الأيمن. تفويض الأمر إلى الله تبارك وتعالى وهذا حقيقة التوكل. أنّ المؤمن في دعائه يجمع بين الرغبة والرهبة.
The recommendation of this supplication at the time of sleep. It is from the Sunnah to sleep on the right side. Entrusting one's affair to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He); this is the reality of reliance upon Him. In his supplication, the believer combines hope and fear.
