عَن الشَّريدِ بنِ سُوَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: مرَّ بي رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ وَأنا جَالسٌ هكذَا، وَقَدْ وَضَعتُ يَدِيَ اليُسْرَى خَلْفَ ظَهْرِي، وَاتَّكأْتُ عَلَى أَلْيَةِ يَدِي، فقالَ: «أتقْعُدُ قِعْدةَ المَغضُوبِ عَلَيهِمْ؟». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإسنادٍ صحيحٍ.
Al-Sharid ibn Suwayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was sitting like this: I had placed my left hand behind my back and was leaning on the heel of my palm. He said: "Do you sit in the manner of those with whom Allah is angry?" Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.
الشرح · explanation
أَلْيَةِ يَدِي: اللحمة التي في أصل الإبهام. المغضوب عليهم: من وقع عليهم غضب الله لفسوقهم أو كفرهم، قيل هم اليهود، والمراد به هنا أعم من اليهود.
"The heel of my palm (alyat al-yad)": the fleshy part at the base of the thumb. "Those with whom [Allah] is angry": those upon whom the anger of Allah has fallen because of their transgression or disbelief; it is said they are the Jews, but what is intended here is more general than the Jews.

النهي عن هذه الجلسة خاصة، أما إذا وضع اليدين كلتيهما من وراء ظهره واتكأ عليهما فلا بأس ، ولو وضع اليد اليمنى فلا بأس. المنع من التشبه بالمغضوب عليهم وهم الكفار والفجار ومن تظهر عليهم آثار العجب والكبر فى هيئاتهم ومشيهم وقعودهم وسائر أحوالهم. على المسلم أن يتميز في جميع أحواله عن المشركين والكافرين ولا يتشبه بهم.
The prohibition of this particular sitting posture; however, if one places both hands behind his back and leans on them, there is no harm, and if he places the right hand [only], there is no harm. The prohibition of imitating those with whom Allah is angry, namely the disbelievers and the wicked, and those upon whom the marks of vanity and pride appear in their bearing, their walk, their sitting, and all their states. The Muslim must distinguish himself in all his states from the polytheists and disbelievers and not imitate them.
