عَنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ جَلَسَ في مَجْلسٍ، فَكثُرَ فيهِ لَغَطُهُ، فقالَ قَبْلَ أنْ يَقُومَ منْ مجْلِسهِ ذلكَ: سبْحانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وبحَمْدكَ، أشْهدُ أنْ لا إلهَ إلّا أنْتَ، أسْتغْفِرُكَ وَأتُوبُ إليْك، إلّا غُفِرَ لَهُ ما كانَ في مجْلسهِ ذلِكَ» رواهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صحيحٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sits in a gathering in which his idle talk is much, and says before he gets up from that gathering of his: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance,' he will be forgiven for what occurred in that gathering of his." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.
الشرح · explanation
لغطُه: الكلام الذي لا ينفع في الآخرة، أو تكلم بما فيه إثم. سبحانك: تنزيه الله تعالى عما لا يليق به.
"His idle talk (laghat)": speech that brings no benefit in the Hereafter, or speaking of what contains sin. "Glory be to You (subhanaka)": declaring Allah, the Exalted, far above whatever does not befit Him.
