Riyad Al Salihin

Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Toward the end [of his life], when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to get up from a gathering, he would say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, you say something now that you did not use to say before." He said: "That is an expiation for whatever occurs in the gathering." Reported by Abu Dawud. And al-Hakim Abu Abdullah reported it in al-Mustadrak through a narration of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and said: its chain is sahih (authentic).

The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would say this supplication as instruction to his ummah and to increase in reward, not because idle talk occurred from him in gatherings.
