عَن ابنِ عمرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قَلَّمَا كانَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يقومُ منْ مَجْلسٍ حَتَّى يَدعُوَ بهؤلاءِ الدَّعَوَاتِ: «اللَّهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ ما تحُولُ بِه بَيْنَنَا وبَينَ مَعاصِيكَ، ومنْ طَاعَتِكَ ما تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ جَنَّتَكَ، ومِنَ اليَقيٍنِ ما تُهَوِّنُ بِه عَلَيْنا مَصَائِبَ الدُّنيَا، اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنا بأسْمَاعِنَا، وأبْصَارنَا، وَقُوّتِنا ما أحييْتَنَا، واجْعَلْهُ الوَارِثَ منَّا، وَاجْعَلْ ثَأْرَنَا عَلى مَنْ ظَلَمَنَا، وانْصُرْنا عَلى مَنْ عادَانَا، وَلا تَجْعلْ مُصِيبَتَنَا في دِينِنَا، وَلا تَجْعلِ الدُّنْيَا أكبَرَ همِّنا، ولا مبْلغَ عِلْمِنَا، وَلا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ لا يَرْحَمُنَا». رواهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Rarely would the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rise from a gathering without supplicating with these words: "O Allah, apportion for us of the fear of You that which will come between us and disobedience to You; and of obedience to You that which will bring us to Your Paradise; and of certainty that which will make the calamities of this world easy for us to bear. O Allah, let us enjoy our hearing, our sight, and our strength as long as You keep us alive, and make it the inheritor from us; take our revenge on those who wrong us, grant us victory over those who show enmity to us, let no calamity befall our religion, do not make this world our greatest concern nor the limit of our knowledge, and do not give power over us to those who will show us no mercy." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

اقسم لنا: اجعل لنا نصيبًا خشيتك: الخوف منك مع الإجلال لك والتعظيم. ما تحُول: ما يمنعنا و يحجزنا عن معصيتك. تُبلّغنا: تُوصلنا. اليقين: التصديق القلبي الجازم. تُهَوّن: تُسهّل وتُيسر. مصائب: كل شيء يصيب الإنسان فيؤذيه. متّعنا: انفعنا وثبّت علينا حواسنا مدة حياتنا. واجعله الوارث منّا: أي اجعل سمعنا وبصرنا وقوتنا باقية مستمرة سليمة إلى آخر حياتنا. ثأرنا: خذ لنا حقّنا منه وجازه على ظلمه. مصيبتنا في ديننا: أي أن نبتلى في ديننا من نقص الطاعة والوقوع في المعصية. أكبر همّنا: أعظم شغلنا. مبلغ علمنا: غاية علمنا وسعينا.
"Apportion for us": grant us a share. "Fear of You": awe of You combined with reverence and magnification of You. "That which comes between": that which prevents and bars us from disobeying You. "Brings us": conveys us. "Certainty": firm affirmation of the heart. "Makes easy": eases and facilitates. "Calamities": everything that befalls a person and harms him. "Let us enjoy": benefit us and keep our senses sound for the span of our lives. "And make it the inheritor from us": that is, keep our hearing, sight, and strength enduring, sound, and intact until the end of our lives. "Our revenge": exact for us our due from him and requite him for his wrongdoing. "Calamity in our religion": that is, that we be tried in our religion through falling short in obedience and lapsing into disobedience. "Our greatest concern": our greatest preoccupation. "The limit of our knowledge": the utmost extent of our knowledge and striving.

استحباب الدعاء بخيري الدنيا والآخرة. الدعاء بسلامة الحواس مدى الحياة، ليقوم الإنسان بها فيما يرضي الله تعالى أنّ طاعة الله هي الطريق الموصل للجنّة. أنّ مصيبة الدِّين هي المصيبة العظمى لما يترتب عليها الخسران في الآخرة. أن يصرف المؤمن همّه وشغله للآخرة فتكون هي أعظم مطلوب وأعلى مقصود.
It is recommended to supplicate for the good of both this world and the Hereafter. Supplicating for the soundness of one's senses throughout life, so that a person may employ them in what pleases Allah the Exalted. Obedience to Allah is the path that leads to Paradise. Calamity in one's religion is the greatest calamity, for it entails loss in the Hereafter. The believer should direct his concern and effort toward the Hereafter, making it his greatest goal and highest aim.
