عَنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «مَا مِنْ قَوْمٍ يَقُومُونَ منْ مَجْلسٍ لا يَذكُرُونَ اللهَ تعالى فيهِ إلّا قَامُوا عَنْ مِثْلِ جِيفَةِ حِمَارٍ، وكانَ لَهُمْ حَسْرَةً» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإسنادٍ صحيحٍ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No people rise from a gathering in which they did not remember Allah the Exalted except that they rise from the like of a donkey's carcass, and it will be a source of regret for them." Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.
الشرح · explanation
قوم: الجماعة من الناس، وهنا يشمل الرجال والنساء. جيفة حمار: أي جثة حمار ميت منتنة. حسرة: شدّة الندامة.
"People": a group of persons; here it includes both men and women. "Donkey's carcass": that is, the putrid corpse of a dead donkey. "Regret": intense remorse.

التحذير من الغفلة عن ذكر الله والتنفير منها بهذا التصوير، لأن أعظم أمراض القلوب إنما هو الغفلة عن الله، وإن معظم المعاصي سببها من الغفلة. على الإنسان ألّا يضيع وقته في مجالس اللغو فتمر ساعات عمره من غير فائدة وتتقطع نفسه حسرات يوم القيامة على ما ضيّع من أوقاته. التحذير من الوقوع فيما يؤدي إلى الندم يوم القيامة.
A warning against heedlessness of the remembrance of Allah and a deterrent from it through this imagery, for the gravest of the heart's diseases is heedlessness of Allah, and most sins arise from heedlessness. A person should not waste his time in gatherings of idle talk, letting the hours of his life pass without benefit, so that he is left rent with regrets on the Day of Resurrection over the time he squandered. A warning against falling into that which leads to regret on the Day of Resurrection.
