Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Nothing remains of prophethood except the bringers of glad tidings." They asked: And what are the bringers of glad tidings? He said: "The righteous dream." Reported by al-Bukhari.

Among dreams are righteous ones through which Allah acquaints the believer with the good or ill that is to come. Among dreams are disliked ones, which are from Satan, who shows a person what he hates in his sleep; their remedy is to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what one saw. There is no revelation (wahy) to anyone after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). No legal rulings are established by a dream: it cannot make lawful what is unlawful nor unlawful what is lawful, nor can it alter anything of the rulings of the Sharia, whether in creed, rulings, or otherwise.
