عَنْ أبي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: كانَ الْيَهُودُ يَتَعَاطسُونَ عِنْدَ رسولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ، يَرْجُونَ أنْ يَقولَ لَهُمْ: يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللهُ، فيقولُ: «يَهْدِيكُمُ اللهُ ويُصلِحُ بَالَكُمْ » رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ، والتِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صحيحٌ.
Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Jews used to sneeze deliberately in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), hoping that he would say to them, "May Allah have mercy on you (yarhamukumu Allah)," but he would say: "May Allah guide you and set your affairs right (yahdikumu Allah wa yuslih balakum)." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

يتعاطسون: يتسببون للعطاس أو يتظاهرون به بإخراج صوت يشبهه.
"Sneeze deliberately" (yata'atasun): they bring on sneezing, or feign it by producing a sound resembling it.

لا يُدعى بالرحمة إلّا للمسلم، وجواز الدعاء لغير المسلم بالهداية وإصلاح ما عليه من الكفر. حرص النّبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم على تأليف القلوب، واحتواء أهل الديانات الأخرى ومعاملتهم بالحكمة. علم أهل الكتاب بنبوته صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم ورسالته باطنًا، ولكن حملهم الكبر على عدم الإقرار.
Mercy is supplicated for only a Muslim; and it is permissible to supplicate for a non-Muslim for guidance and for the rectification of the disbelief he is upon. The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) keenness to win hearts, to embrace the people of other religions, and to deal with them with wisdom. The People of the Book inwardly knew of his prophethood (peace and blessings be upon him) and his message, but arrogance led them to refuse to acknowledge it.
