عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رجلٌ: يا رسولَ اللهِ، الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا يَلْقَى أخَاهُ أوْ صَديقَهُ، أينْحني لَهُ؟ قالَ: «لا» قالَ: أفَيَلتزِمُهُ وَيُقَبِّـلُهُ ؟ قالَ: «لا» قالَ: فَيَأْخُذُ بِيَدهِ وَيُصَافِحُهُ؟ قال: «نَعَمْ» رواهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, when a man among us meets his brother or his friend, should he bow to him?" He said: "No." He said: "Should he embrace him and kiss him?" He said: "No." He said: "Should he take his hand and shake it?" He said: "Yes." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

"Embrace him" (yaltazimuhu): that is, he takes him in his arms.

The prohibition of bowing in the manner of ruku' or the like upon meeting, because submission (khudu') is due to none but Allah. The agreed-upon sunnah is handshaking upon meeting.
