عنِ البَراءِ بنِ عازبٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُما قالَ: أمَرنَا رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ بِعيَادةِ المَريضِ، واتِّباعِ الجنازةِ، وتشْميتِ العاطسِ، وإبْرارِ الْمُقْسِمِ، وَنَصْرِ الْمَظْلُومِ، وإجابةِ الدَّاعِي، وإفْشاءِ السَّلامِ. مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Al-Bara ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to do seven things: to visit the sick, to follow the funeral procession, to invoke a blessing upon one who sneezes, to help one who takes an oath fulfill it, to support the wronged, to accept an invitation, and to spread the greeting of peace. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
عيادة المريض: زيارته. اتباع الجنائز: تشييعها. تشميت العاطس: الدعاء له. إبرار القسم: أي تنفيذ ما حلف عليه. إفشاء السلام: الإكثار منه ونشره.
"Visiting the sick": paying a visit to him. "Following the funerals": accompanying the funeral procession. "Invoking a blessing upon one who sneezes": supplicating for him. "Helping one who takes an oath fulfill it": that is, carrying out what he has sworn to. "Spreading the greeting of peace": doing it abundantly and making it widespread.
