عَنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أنَّ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قالَ: «حَقُّ الْمُسلِمِ عَلَى الْمُسلِمِ خَمْسٌ: رَدُّ السَّلامِ، وَعِيادَةُ المَريضِ، وَاتِّباعُ الجنائزِ، وإجابةُ الدَّعوةِ، وتشميتُ العاطسِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The rights of one Muslim over another are five: returning the greeting of peace, visiting the sick, following funeral processions, accepting an invitation, and invoking a blessing upon one who sneezes." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

حق المسلم على المسلم خمس: أي خمسة أشياء يتأكد على المسلم أن يقوم بها نحو إخوانه المسلمين. تشميت العاطس: الدعاء له بالخير والبركة، والثبات على طاعة الله تعالى. عيادة المريض: أي زيارته في مرضه. وإجابة الدعوة: إلى وليمة العرس أو نحوها.
"The rights of one Muslim over another are five": that is, five things that it is emphasized upon a Muslim to carry out toward his fellow Muslims. "Invoking a blessing upon one who sneezes": supplicating for him with goodness and blessing, and steadfastness in obedience to Allah the Exalted. "Visiting the sick": that is, paying him a visit during his illness. "Accepting an invitation": to a wedding banquet or the like.

رد السلام فرض عين إذا كان المُسَلَّم عليه واحدًا، وفرض كفاية إذا كانوا جماعةً. عدم رد السلام فيه احتقار للإنسان وزرع للضغائن وتوهّم للشرّ. عيادة المريض سنّة وقد تصل إلى الوجوب في حق ذوي الأرحام والجوار، ومن كان بحاجة إلى مساعدة ومواساة. اتّباع الجنازة فرضُ كفاية، وهو تشييعها من محلها أو محل الصلاة إلى مكان دفنها. إجابة الدعوة فيها تطييب لقلب الداعي، وهي من وسائل تنمية المحبّة. تشميت العاطس بعد أن يحمد اللّه واجبٌ وجوبًا عينيًّا إن لم يكن في المجلس غيرك، وفرض كفاية على الجماعة، وهو من تبادل الدعاء بين المسلمين.
Returning the greeting is an individual obligation when the one greeted is a single person, and a collective obligation when they are a group. Failing to return the greeting shows contempt for a person, sows rancor, and gives rise to suspicion of ill will. Visiting the sick is a Sunnah and may reach the level of obligation with respect to blood relatives and neighbors, and anyone in need of help and consolation. Following the funeral procession is a collective obligation, and it is accompanying it from its place or the place of the prayer to the place of burial. Accepting an invitation gladdens the heart of the host, and it is among the means of nurturing love. Invoking a blessing upon one who sneezes after he praises Allah is an individual obligation if there is no one else present in the gathering besides you, and a collective obligation upon a group, and it is part of the mutual exchange of supplications among Muslims.
