عَنْ سعدِ بنِ أَبي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: جَاءَني رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يَعودُني مِنْ وجعٍ اشَتدَّ بي، فَقُلْتُ: (بلَغَ بي ما ترى، وأَنَا ذو مَالٍ، وَلا يرِثُني إِلاَّ ابْنَتِي....) وذكرَ الحديثَ (انظر الحديث رقم ٦). مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
On the authority of Sad ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit me during an illness that had become severe upon me. I said: "It has reached the point you see, and I am a man of wealth, and none inherits from me except my daughter...." and he mentioned the hadith (see hadith no. 6). بلغ بي ما ترى: اشتد بي المرض حَتَّى ظهر أثره علي.
"It has reached the point you see (balagha bi ma tara)": the illness has become so severe that its effect has become visible upon me.

جواز قول المريض: اشتد بي المرض والألم إن كان للإخبار لا للتسخط. محبة النّبيّ صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم لأصحابه وتفقده لأحوالهم ورِفقه بهم. جواز الوصية بالثلث والإرشاد إلى التقليل عنه، فقد قال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "الثلث والثلث كثير".
The permissibility of the sick person saying: "The illness and pain have become severe upon me," if it is to inform, not out of discontent. The love of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for his companions, his checking on their conditions, and his gentleness with them. The permissibility of bequeathing a third, and the guidance to reduce below it, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "A third, and a third is much."
