عنْ أُمِّ سَلَمةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قالتْ: دَخَلَ رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ على أَبي سلَمةَ وَقَدْ شَقَّ بصَرُهُ، فأَغْمضَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ الرُّوحَ إِذا قُبِضَ، تبِعَهُ الْبصَرُ» فَضَجَّ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، فقالَ: «لا تَدْعُوا عَلى أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِلّا بِخَيْرٍ، فإِنَّ المَلائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلى ما تَقُولونَ» ثمَّ قالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ ؛ اغْفِرْ لأبي سَلَمَةَ، وَارْفَعْ درَجَتَهُ في المَهْدِيِّينَ، وَاخْلُفْهُ في عَقِبِهِ في الْغَابِرِينَ، واغْفِرْ لَنَا ولَهُ يَاربَّ الْعَالمِينَ، وَافْسحْ لَهُ في قَبْرِهِ، وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فيهِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
On the authority of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in upon Abu Salamah when his eyes were fixed in a stare, so he closed them. Then he said: "When the soul is taken, the sight follows it." Some of his family cried out, so he said: "Do not invoke anything but good upon yourselves, for the angels say 'amin' to what you say." Then he said: "O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are rightly guided, be a successor for those he has left behind, forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds, make his grave spacious for him, and give him light therein." شقّ بصره: أصبح بصره شاخصًا وكأنّه ينظر إلى شيء بعيد. ضجّ ناس من أهله: رفعوا أصواتهم بالبكاء عليه. الملائكة يؤمّنون: أي تقول آمين واخْلفه: أي كن له خلفًا عقبه: أي فيمن يكون من أهله من بعده الغابرين: الباقين وافسح: وسّع
"His eyes were fixed in a stare (shaqqa basaruhu)": his sight became fixed, as though gazing at something distant. "Some of his family cried out (dajja nas min ahlihi)": they raised their voices weeping over him. "The angels say amin (al-mala'ikah yu'amminun)": that is, they say "amin." "Be a successor for him (wa-khlufhu)": that is, be a successor in his place. "His descendants (aqibihi)": that is, among those of his family who come after him. "Those left behind (al-ghabirin)": those who remain. "Make spacious (wa-fsah)": widen.
