عنْ أَبي هُريرةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ شَهِدَ الجنَازَةَ حَتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَيْها فَلَهُ قِيرَاطٌ، وَمَنْ شَهِدَهَا حَتَّى تُدْفَنَ فَلَهُ قِيراطَانِ» قيلَ: وما الْقِيراطَانِ؟ قالَ: «مِثْلُ الجَبلَيْنِ العَظِيمَيْنِ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever attends the funeral until the prayer is offered over it has one qirat, and whoever attends it until it is buried has two qirats." It was said: "And what are the two qirats?" He said: "Like two immense mountains." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

الترغيب في تشييع الجنائز ودفن الميت وهذا من فروض الكفاية ومن حقوق المسلمين بعضهم على بعض. الإشارة بهذا المقدار إلى الأجر المتعلِّق بالميت في تجهيزه وغسله، وجميع ما يتعلق به، فللمصلي عليه قيراط من ذلك، ولمن شهد الدفن قيراط.
Encouragement to accompany funerals and bury the deceased; this is among the communal obligations (fard kifayah) and among the rights of Muslims upon one another. The indication, by this measure, of the reward connected to the deceased in his preparation, washing, and all that pertains to him: the one who prays over him has one qirat of that, and the one who attends the burial has [another] qirat.
