عنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قالَ: «أَسْرِعُوا بِالجَنَازَةِ، فَإنْ تَكُ صَالِحَةً، فَخَيْرٌ تُقَدِّمُونها إلَيْهِ، وَإنْ تَكُ سِوَى ذلِكَ، فَشَرٌّ تَضَعُونَهُ عَنْ رِقَابِكُمْ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وفي روايةٍ لمُسْلِمٍ: «فَخَيْرٌ تُقَدِّمُونَهَا عَلَيْه».
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hasten with the funeral. If it was righteous, then it is a good to which you are advancing it; and if it was otherwise, then it is an evil that you are casting off your necks." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In a narration of Muslim: "then it is a good that you are advancing it to."

استحباب الإسراع بالجنازة، ومن الخطأ تأخيرها لغير سبب قاهر. الإسراع في الجنازة يشمل الإسراع في تجهيزها، والإسراع في تشييعها، والإسراع في دفنها. بيان ما يصير إليه حال الميت من خير أو شر وهذا من الأمور الغيبية. المراد بالإسراع أن يكون فوق المشي المعتاد لا الركض بها وخضّها، لأن هذا قد يضر الميت ويشق على المتبعين من الضعفاء.
It is recommended to hasten with the funeral; delaying it without a compelling reason is a mistake. Hastening with the funeral includes hastening in preparing it, hastening in accompanying it, and hastening in burying it. An explanation of the state of good or evil to which the deceased comes, which is among the matters of the unseen. What is meant by hastening is that it be somewhat faster than the usual walking pace, not running with it and jolting it, for that may harm the deceased and burden the weaker ones among those following.
